Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has proposed the scrapping of the senate and women representative positions in bid to curb the ballooning wage bill.

The MP wants constitutional amendments done to scrap the senators and women representative positions saying that their work is being done by the National Assembly members.

Kuria is also proposing that the number of MPs be reduced from the current 349 to 200.

Speaking to journalists  after attending the Jubilee celebrations at Kangubiri high school on Sunday, the vocal Gatundu south legislator also called for slashing of gubernatorial positions from the current 47 to 16.

Kuria claims that there is duplication of roles especially between the senate and the National Assembly.

“There is urgent need to re-look into the constitution and do away with some positions like the senate and women representative so that we can save the economy and the ballooning wage bill,” he said.

The Member of Parliament stated that the wage will continue to balloon if appropriate measures are not taken.

“If we continue with this system where we have so many leaders doing the same job, we will run the country broke,” he said.

Meanwhile, the MP has lashed out at Jubilee MPs allegedly supporting the ouster of Waiguru. Kuria has given the MPs allegedly backing the sacking of Waiguru over alleged corruption two days to change their minds or they be exposed.

He said that it was unfortunate that some members of the Jubilee were backstabbing the government.
