A section of Kwamaiko residents in Ngewa Ward have appealed to the county government of Kiambu to beef up security in the area.
The residents want the government to deploy more law enforcers in the area to deal with criminals who they say are causing havoc in the area.
Speaking on Monday, the residents complained over deteriorating security alleging existence of criminal gang terrorising them. The residents allege that a criminal gang is behind a series of mugging and robberies allegedly being witnessed in the area.
Joseph Kinuthia, a bodaboda rider in the area alleges that there is a gang that robs and mug residents even in day broad-light.
“Security within this area (Kwamaiko) is deteriorating and want to ask the police to beef up security and arrest the criminals causing as havoc,” he said.
Kinuthia said that several bodaboda riders have been mugged and robbed by unknown gang that is armed and operates within the area.
Mary Mwenje, a shop owner within Kwamaiko shopping centre claims that she is forced to close early for fear of being robbed by unknown gang that she alleges operates in the area freely.
“My business has gone down because I am forced to close by 6pm in the evening for fear of being attacked," she said.
The locals want area MCA Karungo Thang’wa to intervene and address the matter. They also want the county government to deploy more security personnel and guarantee them of their safety especially during this festive season.
County commissioner Alex Nkoyo while speaking at Kiambu town on Saturday said that police will not rest until when all criminal elements will be wiped out.
Nkoyo urged Kiambu residents to work with the police saying that it is the only way that security will be guaranteed.
Several leaders including Governor William Kabogo have urged county security officials to intensify security and deal with elements of criminal acts that have been reported and experienced in some parts of the county.
