Njoro legislator Joseph Kiuna has expressed his dissatisfaction with how the government has handled human-wildlife conflict in Naishi game, Njoro constituency.

Kiuna maintained that those who have had their animals killed and crops destroyed have not been compensated in spite of engaging in talks with Kenya Wildlife Services in the area over the matter.

“Government has let us down because we have seen no action by KWS being taken in compensating these people yet they are going hungry now,” he stated.

He explained that a few weeks ago, he was called by a distressed neighbour to try and scare off a stray lion from Nakuru National Park that had invaded a person’s home.

“I was called from my home and together with area residents we tried to scare off a lion that had mauled two cows and two donkeys in a farm. We informed KWS and no compensation has been made,” he said.

Kiuna was speaking on Wednesday in Inooro Tv during a morning show interview.

Monkeys have also been a nightmare for Naishi game residents as they have destroyed crops in the farms following depletion of food in the park.

Simon Njagi said that the monkeys are taking away their chicken and destroying their crops.

“Three weeks ago, monkeys came to my farm and kitchen. They took left over ugali and three chickens before we pelt stones to them after which they disappeared with a sufuria and a chicken,” said Njagi.
