Independent electoral and boundaries commission is set to begin a process of mass voter registration in the ward level.
Speaking during a workshop in Machakos town Commissioner Mohammed Alawi said that the process will ensure people at the grassroots get registered.
He said that the 30-day process will begin on February 15, and end on March 15.
Alawi said that despite the lack of sufficient funds to carry the process of registration they are trying their best to utilize the funds issued.
"We asked for Sh2 billion shillings but we only got Sh500 million, we will try our best to utilize it as much as we can," said Alawi.
Alawi also disclosed that they are trying their best to rebuild back the trust on the commission.
Alawi blamed the low turnout of people to register to apathy of voters and ignorance.
He said that the apathy has been caused by politicians who discredit the commission before elections.
"Some politicians say that the elections will be rigged causing people to have mistrust in the commission which on the other hand is doing all it can to ensure free and fair election in 2017," he added.
