Lake Nakuru National Park senior warden, Dickson Ritan says there is a huge decrease in animal poaching in the park.
Speaking in Nakuru on Tuesday, Ritan lauded the collaboration between Nakuru residents and the park wardens saying that it has led to the decrease in poaching. He also attributed this decrease to the increase in the park Wardens, installation of surveillance cameras and the presence of sniffer dogs.
‘‘As of now, the surveillance of animals is done 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We have also increased the number of warders in addition to the availability of sniffer dogs. We have also sensitised residents on the importance of wild animals,’’ stated Ritan.
However, he asked the residents who are close to the park to be careful, especially when using fire to destroy weeds in land preparation as the fire may spread to the park causing a lot of damage.
‘‘ During this dry season, we are urging farmers who use fire to clear weeds in their pieces of land, to be careful so as to avoid ugly incidents,’’ added Ritan.
