An enraged tenant decided to stab his landlord after he disconnected power supply to him, a Nakuru court heard on Tuesday.
Gilbert Korir is alleged to have stabbed Geoffrey Bett twice in the eye a year ago in Kaptembwa area of Nakuru, fatally injuring him after he accused Bett of discriminating against him by severing his power supply.
According to Bett, who testified before senior principal magistrate Liz Gicheha, the accused who had been his tenant for a year went berserk and assaulted him after he learnt that his house had no power supply. He added that much as he did the disconnection a week earlier after the accused failed to pay his electricity bill, the accused had apparently retained his anger for the fateful day in which he ambushed him and stabbed him in the eye with a clear intent to killing him.
“On the fateful day, I heard the accused wife cursing that somebody should be stabbed for discriminating on them. Little did I know that I was the one. After a few minutes, the accused stormed out of his house brandishing a knife and asked me why I had earlier disconnected his power supply.
“Before I could say anything he surged forth and stabbed me above the eye brows and again inside the cornea after which I lost consciousness," he testified.
He added that he was later admitted at Provincial General Hospital where he had the left eye removed.
He further told the court that there had been no prior bad blood between him and the accused whom he said was his neighbour in the residential plot and wondered why he was out to harm him.
The accused is alleged to have fled from Nakuru together with his family after the incident and was arrested in March in Nakuru town and charged with assault.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence and was released on a cash bond of Sh200,000 pending further hearings on January 27, 2016.
