Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has urged law enforcers in the county not to relent in the fight against illicit brew and second generation alcoholic drinks.

Speaking at Kiambu Town on Sunday, Wamatangi said that illicit brew should not be allowed to resurface in the county.

The senator noted that claims that illicit brew was resurfacing are serious and that law enforcers should act on them.

Wamatangi cited illicit brew as the main cause of poverty among many residents in the county.

“Law enforcers should be alert and deal with anyone trying to re-introduce illicit brew and second generation drinks in this county,” he said.

The senator said that the recent crackdown that was ordered by President Uhuru Kenyatta had bore fruits adding that the fight should be continued.

At the same time, Wamatangi wants the county government to crackdown on rogue bar operators.

The senator while reacting to an incident where two people were allegedly killed by a bar owner in Kwamaiko in Githunguri last week, said that some bar operators were contravening the Alcoholic Drinks Act.

“The county government through the established sub-county alcoholic drinks committee should deal with rogue bar operators to ensure that such cases are curbed,” he said.

The senator said that alcoholism was to blame for criminal activities mostly among the youth in the county and across the country.
