Leaders in Kisumu County have lauded Kisumu West MP Olago Aluoch for offering scholarship to 10 candidates from his constituency.

Kisumu Women Representative Rose Nyamunga and County Executive Committee member for Education and Sports Jennifer Kerre praised Mr Olago for demonstrating leadership and for helping needy and bright children.

“Other MPs should emulate what Olago has done so that many of our children go to school and further studies,” said Nyamunga.

This year, 40 students from the county who scored 350 marks were selected by the District Selection Committee to participate in the program.

Among the 40, 10 were selected to be sponsored directly by the Kisumu West Constituency Development Fund.

Fourty candidates from Kisumu County who sat their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education in 2015 are set to benefit from the Equity Bank Wings to Fly Scholarship.

Olago said his constituency committee injected professionalism in selecting beneficiaries of the scholarship.

“The applicants went through a rigorous process. We visited their homes and ensured that they are very needy,” said Olago, adding that he did not want to be unfair in any way.

The program which was initiated in 2010 has so far seen 10,233 needy students supported on a full scholarship to the various high schools. Among those 193, were drawn from Kisumu County.

The program that is supported by the various organisation spearheaded by Equity Bank aims at mentoring and nurturing young talent through education.
