Former form four students from around Nakuru town have been advised to take control of their lives from an early age.

Speaking to the students who had assembled at Kenya National Library in Nakuru, businessman Kio Kinuthia who is also the director of the Rift Valley Sports Club and Chairman of Nakuru Real Analysts challenged the young adults to also be responsible citizens.

“You will never get a second chance to make a first impression so you should make a habit of presenting yourself in a respectable manner at all times,” challenged Mr. Kio.

In a talk laced with humour that left participants laughing, Mr. Kio also took the opportunity to advise youths on habits that make a responsible adult like good grooming, responsible use of money and respect for other people’s property.

“You should never use your parent’s money to buy liquor. You should learn to respect other people’s things and space. Please note that your parents’ or siblings' stuff are not yours and you should always ask before using them as a matter of courtesy,” he said.

The talk had been organised by Ms. Angella Maramba, the coordinator of the American Corner at the Nakuru Library. In her closing remarks, she promised that she will continue holding similar events for the benefit of the form four leavers.

Other speakers included Mr. James Mwaura who is an environmentalist and the Director of Water Watch Initiative and Martin Gicinga, an online content creator. While Mwaura’s talk focused on the transition from student to adulthood, Gicinga focused on how the school leavers could leverage on the available social media platforms to create Professional Online Profiles that can give them visibility online.

Faith Kemboi, one of the participants told this Hivisasa writer that the talk had been an eye opener for her and promised to take the efforts to create an online profile that will set her apart.
