Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has decried the duplication of development projects by the county Government and area Members of Parliament leading to waste of massive financial resources.
He said some of the MPs have invested heavily in dispensaries and Chiefs’ offices when they should have consulted with the county government which has the mandate for funding such projects.
Ongwae wondered why the funds should not be used to construct classrooms and modern toilets which most primary schools need.
“Since health services are a devolved function to the counties while education is not, I do not see why the MPs should embark on the construction of health facilities which we are also doing when some schools do not have toilets,’’ he said.
Speaking on Monday evening when he visited the construction of Iyabe sub-county hospital in Bonchari he urged the national government to stop the MPs in order to save the public funds from being misused.
The governor asked the MPs to swallow their pride and concentrate on developing infrastructure for schools since this is where their efforts are required by the parents and not in hospitals which fall under the County government.
