Residents of Mombasa have asked relevant authorities to construct a foot bridge along Likoni Road to minimise accidents along the busy road.

This comes three days after a man lost his life along the busy road as he was trying to cross the road.

According to the residents living along the road, the construction of a foot bridge will ease their fear of losing their lives along the busy road.

They also said that the road has of late become dangerous to their lives as it is ever busy making it hard to cross.

Joe Bays who witnessed the accident said that the accident could have been avoided if the foot bridge was there.

"This is an accident that could have been avoided if we had a safe crossing point here," he said.

He accused the authorities for ignoring their plight to make the road safer to cross.

To his friend, Dickson Odikor, the situation has been that way for a long period now and that no one has been bothered to construct a foot bridge.

"So many people have lost their lives here. It is good I have lived here long enough to see all these," he said.

Parents whose children use the road often are much worried about the safety of their young ones as they cross the road.

They said that their safety can only be guaranteed if a safe crossing point is constructed.

"Let the government hear our plight," said Mwanaisha Abdalla, a parent who is worried about her son's safety.

They now want the government and other stakeholders to intervene.
