Traders at Limuru Town have urged the Kiambu County government to construct public toilets at the trading centre.

The traders said that there are no public toilets at the market, a move they say has put their health at risk.

Speaking to this writer on Tuesday, the traders said the toilets that exist at the trading centre are old and clogged and that they are forced to pay to access private toilets and washrooms located in the market.

The traders said that they pay levies to the county government and thus public toilets have to be constructed for sanitation purposes.

“As we speak there is no single public toilet or washroom at this centre and we are concerned about our health,” said Sharon Nyambura, a trader at the market.

Ms Nyambura said that sanitation standards at the market are poor as some people relieve themselves in open business areas.

The traders asked Limuru MP John Kiragu to address the matter and ensure toilets are constructed at the market.

The business operators also asked the Kiambu County government to be collecting garbage at the market on time, as the garbage piles up in heaps before being collected.
