Police in Tigoni Limuru have launched search for a driver of a parastatal vehicle which was impounded ferrying chang’aa on Saturday night.

The driver of the Toyota Prado belonging to the Kenya Urban Road Authority (KURA) escaped after the vehicle rolled at Rironi and 40 litres of chang’aa impounded.

Limuru OCPD Mohammed Bakuli while confirming the incident said the driver of the vehicle and some occupants escaped after the accident.

He said that 40 litres of chang’aa packed in plastic containers and polythene bags were found in the Toyota Prado.

“We have launched a search for the driver of the vehicle and the occupants and we will soon arrest them," Bakuli told journalists at Tigoni police station where the vehicle was towed.

The OCPD said that the vehicle was heading towards Nairobi from Western Kenya.

“We are in contact with KURA to which the Toyota Prado is registered to and they will help us with details of the driver that will lead to his arrest and other occupants of the vehicle,” he added.

He said that several cases of government vehicles being used to ferry illegal goods had been witnessed and reported in the past.

Bakuli said that police will be extra vigilant to ensure that drivers who misuse government vehicles are tracked down and arrested.
