Livestock farmers in Gituamba ward have been advised to feed their newly born calves with their mother’s milk in order to foster quick growth and prevention of diseases.
Speaking from Gituamba government offices on Monday, Gituamba ward livestock and fisheries director Docrus Murugi noted that calves who feed on their mother's milk have higher chances of evading fever diseases noting that the milk contains all the nutrients required for their survival.
Murugi observed that many farmers from Gituamba are fond of ignoring the six months milk feeding program for newly born calves, an issue that can make the small animals weak and more likely to contract diseases.
"Let us make it a routine of helping our calves survive by heeding to the laid down six months milk feeding program. The milk from a calf's mothers have all the nutrients required for their survival," she said.
She further advised livestock farmers to designate special feeding areas for their livestock to allow them feed properly and in clean environments.
