Livestock farmers in Nyamira County have been challenged to join cooperatives to enable them access low interest loans offered by financial institutions.

Addressing a group of farmers in Nyamira Town Hall who benefited from loans offered by local cooperative society, the CeC for Agriculture and livestock Ms Peris Mong’are said the credit advanced to cooperative societies in the dairy and meat value chains are interest free. She said they are aimed at facilitating production, processing, breed improvement services and marketing expansion of farmers’ produce.

Mong’are also assured local farmers that the county government of Nyamira will continue to provide conducive environment for the growth of the sector.

She added that the Nyamira County Government is planning to construct a milk processing plant that will serve the county farmers and ensure that their products do not go on waste.

Mong’are urged every farmer to adopt latest farming techniques so that they can increase their income.

“We want youths who are fresh from schools to put their skills into practice since it has been found that farmers are the ones with a lot of money” she added

She called on farmers to always seek advice from the available field officers in the county in case of any difficulties in the venture.
