Resident of Mamboleo in Kisumu have been cautioned against forcing minors into child labour at the expense of going to school.
Jane Njeri from Akili Dada said some households in the area were using small children for doing house chores something that is against the law.
"Keeping underage people out of school to perform any kind of duty is against the law, we have learnt that is what is happening in this area of Mamboleo and its environs.That should not be happening," said Njeri.
Njeri who was speaking to this writer on Sunday evening said many people are employing children because they offer cheap labour.
Njeri said that as Akili Dada organisation they are going to coordinate with the police and conduct a crack down on such households that uses children for labour.
"We have free primary education and all children should take advantage of it. Anybody denying a child such an opportunity for work should be prosecuted," said Njeri.
Njeri also cautioned parents against sending their minors into child labour as it is an offence under the Kenyan laws.
