A Nyamira based lobby group has called on the national government to increase Constituency Development Fund (CDF) to cater for the needs of more Kenyans and spearhead development.
Led by their chairperson Dennis Gekonge in a consultative forum in a Nyamira hotel on Thursday, the group raised concern that hundreds of students were not accessing high school education due to poverty and increased CDF would save them through bursaries.
“The scholarships offered by corporate organisations and individuals are not enough. CDF has been rescuing many vulnerable children but some still miss out due to inadequacy of the funds. If MPs can get more funds in CDF, I am sure hundreds of needy but bright students will benefit,” he said.
He also called on MPs to ensure they spend the funds allocated to their constituencies well.
He also told the MPs to be accountable for every shilling they receive under CDF.
“I know many government funds go unaccounted for but there is need for the government to ensure that all elected and non elected leaders spend the funds well,” he said.
