Kisii deputy governor Joash Maangi has cautioned drivers against violating traffic rules and urged them to drive safely to avert incidents of road carnages during the festive season.

Maangi who was addressing residents during Jamuhuri Day celebrations at Gusii Stadium said the region has been experiencing road accidents during festive seasons (December) due to reckless driving, something he wants the police to act swiftly to prevent people from losing their lives.

He called upon traffic police officers to man all the roads in the county and apply the law unconditionally to help tame reckless drivers.

"My message will go to drivers. We do not want to hear incidents where our people die out of reckless driving. You have the prime responsibility to ensure to safeguard the lives you are trafficking. Otherwise, I would like to urge the police to ensure reckless drivers are apprehended and prosecuted,” he said.

He also urged motorbike riders to wear reflector jackets to avoid possible confusions that could lead to unnecessary accidents.

“It’s also worth to remind motorbike riders that they should also put on reflector jackets to avoid confusion that could lead to accidents on our roads,” he added.

Maangi also urged the police to ensure all road unworthy vehicles are wiped out of the roads.

“The police should also work extremely hard to ensure road unworthy vehicles are weeded out of our roads and charged with attempted murder. That is the only way we can restore sanity in our roads,” he said.
