Kisii deputy governor Joash Maangi has defended the planned meeting in Deputy President Wiliam Ruto’s Eldoret home that is scheduled on Thursday this week, terming it developmental.
Mr Maangi is expected to rally a host of area MPs and a section of ODM local leaders to pay the DP a courtesy call to discuss development matters pertaining Kisii County.
Speaking at Kisii town on Tuesday, Mr Maangi dismissed speculations that he was working to hinder the ODM party in the region by rallying behind newly formed Jubilee Alliance party.
“I have heard people taking so many nasty things about my loyalty (to ODM) and I want to assure them that I am very loyal to my party. However, it doesn’t mean that when you’re loyal to the party you cannot work with other people to spur development,” he said.
Maang’i said the region needed to improve infrastructure, being an agricultural county, and said it will be among the top agendas once they meet Mr Ruto.
“The meeting isn’t political as some people are speculating. We want our roads improved and farmers get opportunity to transport their produce with ease to markets and that can be done if we negotiate with the government,” he added.
Senator Chris Obure is understood to have earlier held a meeting with Maangi to persuade him cancels the meeting following increasing pressure from top leadership of ODM party who accused Maangi, the current Organizing Secretary of the party of allegedly betraying them.
