Machakos gubernatorial race has attracted several politicians. Incumbent Alfred Mutua will be defending the seat under his Maendeleo Chap Chap movement party, an affiliate to Jubilee party.

Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala has shown interest to compete his boss after a series of wrangles between them.

Kiala has been accusing Mutua for embezzlement of public funds while Mutua accuses Kiala over draft corruption, one of them being stealing pipes which were made for Kibauni water project and diverting the project into his farm in Masinga.

Fomer Assistant Minister and nephew to Ukambani Hero Muindi Mbingu, Wavinya Ndeti will be vying under her CCU party. She lost last elections to Governor Mutua who had full support from Wiper party under Kalonzo Musyoka.

She is the only threat to incumbent Mutua as majority of the residents are behind her back. She comes from metropolitan areas, Mavoko and Kathiani constituencies which has majority of votes.

East Africa legislative MP, Peter Mathuki has of late shown his interest for this seat. He will be competing with Bernard Kiala for wiper ticket. His entrance in the race has brought split in Wiper on who to field.

Senator Muthama and his close allies are said to be supporting Bernard Kiala while Wiper party leader Kalonzo and his allies are said to be supporting Peter Mathuki terming Kiala as a weak candidate to compete Wavinya and Mutua.

ODM party said they will not field any candidate for the race and instead will support CCU party leader Wavinya.

Cord suggests Wavinya to join with Kiala to unseat Mutua but the problem has been who to deputize the other.

Wavinya beats Kiala Development wise, has more financial muscles and more followers hence many Cord supporters asking Wavinya to be backed up by the coalition.
