Some Leaders from Machakos County are now calling for the arrest of their Governor Dr Alfred Mutua over corruption allegations.
Led by Machakos Central Ward Representative Mr Cornelius Kitheka, the leaders said the Governor has lost the moral ground to govern the county in view of the graft allegations leveled against him.
Kitheka who was speaking to businessmen outside the Machakos law courts on Wednesday after filing of a case to challenge the new trading levies said it was wrong for the governor to continue walking free while a court order was hanging over his head.
“We are calling for the immediate arrest of Dr Mutua as ordered by Justice Isaac Lenaola that he be investigated over graft claims, he should further tell us where he got the money he was dishing out at Masongaleni while drumming up support for a TIP candidate in last week’s by-election that was won by a Wiper Party candidate,” he said.
Kitheka who was accompanied by Machakos County Chamber of Commerce Chairman Mr Simon Kitheka also accused the county boss of wasting vast amounts of money to host delegations of businessmen in Tanzania while neglecting his own people.
He termed the exercise a pursuit in futility and cautioned that the people of the area are about to shove him out of office come 2017.
His counterpart on his part asked his members to boycott paying the new rates until the case they have filed in court to challenge the new charges is heard and determined.
He urged the businessmen not to be cowed in the fight for their rights, and exuded confidence that the new rules would be quashed by the court.
