The governor of Machakos county Dr. Alfred Mutua on Thursday urged the area residents to take caution when travelling especially during the December holidays when most families prefer to travel. This is following the flooding of many roads and bridges in parts of Machakos county due to the ongoing rains.

"I call upon all residents of Machakos county to be careful as they travel due to flooded roads and bridges. It is critical that all are aware that it takes only one foot of water on a bridge to carry away a bus full of people, let alone a small car", the governor said.

The governor also assured the residents of his government's assistance incase of emergencies due to the rains saying that his government's emergency and rescue department will be alert 24/7 together with the el nino disaster response team.

"My government's Emergency & Rescue Department is working with my el nino disaster response team. Our rescue vehicles, tractors, sniffer dogs and ambulances are on standby throughout the county incase of anything," he said.

The rains that pounded the area from Wednesday night to the better part of Thursday has left many roads and areas flooded.
