Machakos governor's wife Lilian Nganga has urged the residents to stop discriminating people living with HIV/Aids in the county.
Speaking while presiding over an official launch of a campaign against HIV/Aids in Mavoko at St Jude's Catholic Church in Athi River Town on Thursday, Nganga said those living with the virus need to be treated with dignity just like other members of the society.
Ng'ang'a said the residents should change their attitudes and learn to love, appreciate and support those living positively.
"I urge all residents of Machakos County to show love to those infected with HIV," said Nganga.
She called on those who do not know their HIV status to visit public health facilities spread across the county and get tested.
Nganga said those who test positive should accept the results, seek medication, adhere to drugs as prescribed by medical practitioners, eat healthy and follow doctors' directives as this would prolong their life expectancy.
She urged residents to desist from engaging in risky behaviour which would lead to new infections asserting that everyone has a responsibility of taking care of him or herself.
