Machakos government wants to establish a dumpsite on a seven acre land in Nguluni, Matungulu Sub County to ease the longstanding solid waste disposal crisis in Tala and Nguluni towns.
Area Sub County administrator on Monday confirmed the county government is currently fast tracking plans to set up the site whose land was acquired years back.
"We anticipate that the longstanding complaints over pollution resulting from the current dumpsite will come to an end after the government establishes the said dumpsite," Kiatu told journalists in his office in Tala town.
This announcement comes in the wake of numerous complaints by owners of homes within the neighbourhood of a temporary dumpsite near Tala town where subsequent town administrators have been disposing off solid wastes for many years.
Families neighbouring the location have been complaining of frequent respiratory diseases resulting from air and water pollution from the dumpsite. The current waste disposal point located just a few metres from the local town has become an eyesore to the fast growing urban establishment.
Last week maendeleo ya wanawake chairlady in Matungulu sub county Ms Victoria Mulalya had threatened to take legal action against the local government for failure to exercise due diligence in ensuring health safety to the local residents in regards to the dumpsite.
