Chairperson of Madaraka Market Traders Jane Wangunyu said many traders have been facing storage challenges.

"Dry cereals are foods that require good storage and preservation which we cannot say we have at the market currently," said Wangunyu.

On Friday, she said the existing stores are old and squeezed and cannot be entrusted to store their products appropriately.

"Many of these traders opt to rent a room outside the market where they ferry their cereals to the market at the start of business. This is costly considering that we are already paying a lot in form of levies," she added.

Wangunyu argued that the levies the county government collects from the traders daily are enough to modernise the market and in turn help traders minimise losses.

"It is not just the cereal traders who have been having challenges with storage. Traders that deal with perishables have also been incurring big losses. A complete modernisation of the market would be better," concluded Wangunyu.
