Residents of Maguguni village in Ngoliba Ward, Thika sub county have urged law enforcers to intensify security in the area.

The residents are alleging rising cases of crime and want the police to act.

Speaking to this reporter on Tuesday at Maguguni trading center, the residents said that cases of insecurity were on the rise.

The residents alleged that a bodaboda operator and his passenger were attacked and robbed by unknown people on Sunday night at Maguguni trading center.

“The government should increase surveillance and deal with cases of crime that are slowly resurfacing in some parts of this area,” said Paul Kimani a resident.

Mr Kimani said that there had been 24 hour surveillance during the festive season noting that the police patrols are no longer being conducted.

The residents said that cases of crime are instilling fear in them and that the government must ensure they have adequate security.

Mercy Kabiru, a solon operator in the area said security should be the first priority of the government.

While acknowledging the efforts by police, the resident said that much needs to be done.

“The police surveillance and patrols should be a long term tactic not a one day affair,” she said.

Addressing journalists at his office in Thika on Monday, Thika OCPD Erastus Muthamia said that police had beefed up security.

He said that police operations across Thika will continue adding that residents should volunteer information to the police for action.

Muthamia said that cases of crime had significantly declined in the recent weeks and that police will continue the crackdown on criminal groups.
