Kisii County residents are set to benefit from roads upgrade following an agreement between governor James Ongwae and African Development Bank (ADB).
Ahero-Kisii-Isebania road will be among the roads to be refurbished.
Speaking at Gusii Stadium during Jamhuri Day celebrations on Saturday, Ongwae said a number of feeder roads within the county including Oyugis-Rioma; Nyakoe-Nyatieko; Nyachenge-Tabaka-Ogembo and Suneka-Motonto-Egetuki were set for upgrade as part of the main project.
The governor noted that as part of this programme, Daraja Mbili Market will be redone and a new bus terminus constructed to significantly improve the working conditions of business people.
“Besides easing transport challenges, this road project will be a boon for our economy as it will help connect Kisii to regional markets,” he said.
Apart from roads, Ongwae indicated that Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) will be the first in the western Kenya region to offer Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) services.
“Installation is complete. Last week, technicians conducted initial tests and now residents will start enjoying its services from next week. The MRI machine will allow our hospital to offer world-class diagnostic services through timely diagnosis and quality treatment of patients with brain and spinal cord complications, he said.
