The majority leader in the County Assembly of Kisumu has raised concern over truancy among MCAs in attending committee sittings.
Marlin Olero who is also the ward representative for Kobura Ward accused some MCAs of not taking their roles seriously, adding that many committee meetings were poorly attended.
Mrs Olero was speaking during the first session after the assembly resumed sessions after recess.
“We have stayed out for a long time and need to get to serious work, truancy should not be allowed by all means as we were elected to serve the people of Kisumu,” she said.
She added that the assembly leadership will take stern action against members who skip sittings.
She warned that such members will be dewhipped from the committees and others appointed to take up the positions.
She said that the house business calendar is already out and that it was time for members to expedite reports of the committees, and table them before the house.
Mrs Olero stressed that the assembly is set to embark on serious legislative work and committees will play a crucial role in seeing this through without hitches.
MCAs have in the past been accused of drawing huge sitting allowances yet they do not attend the sittings.
