Residents of Makongeni in Kibera Nairobi have asked their landlords to build latrines that are clean and safe to use.

Speaking in Makongeni this Monday afternoon, the tenants' chair lady Mildred Ochieng' said that many landlords in the area don't construct good toilets, they only collect monthly rent without bothering to know the kind of conditions the tenants encounter.

Mildred said that during this rainy season, the tenants have been facing difficulties when responding to nature calls due to the poor state of the poorly constructed latrines.

"It is a shame that our landlords don't construct good latrines for us tenants to use. We do pay monthly rent therefore the money we pay should be used to built good toilets for us to use. I would like to tell our landlords to ensure that come next year, good toilets will be built to ensure that hygiene is maintained or else the matter will be reported to the relevant authorities," said Mildred.
