Makongeni Chief Daniel Waiguru has issued a stern warning to scrap metal dealers in the area who buy stolen iron sheets.

Speaking in his office on Friday after kiosk operators complained of their iron sheet being stolen, the chief asked all scrap metal dealers operating within Makongeni shopping centre to register with his office.

"I want to ask all scrap metal dealers operating in Makongeni shopping centre to register with my office before the end of November without fail,” said Waiguru.

He added: "Kiosk operators have complained to me that for the last three weeks, thieves have been stealing their iron sheets and they suspect they have been selling them to scrap metal dealers.”

Waiguru said that those who will fail to register their operations with his office within the given time frame will be treated as culprits and will be dealt with accordingly.

"We know scrap metal dealers have licenses from other government agencies but we are asking them to provide us with their names for administrative purposes,” he said.

At the same time, he asked the kiosk operators to coordinate with the police by giving the names of potential suspects for easier tracking.
