Residents in Malindi are calling on the government to beef up security in all villages in the Malindi Town and at the Coast region as the Malindi by-election start on Monday.
Brian Yusuf said the county government needs to boost security and surveillance in the region to avoid any disruption in the elections.
Security agents need to be alert to avert any attacks targeted at rival supporters during and after the elections, said Yusuf.
“The government needs to beef up security and guarantee safety of all Kenyans. Security needs to be intensified and increase patrols in the region,” he said.
Farida Salim urged politicians to take the lead in ensuring that there is peace when the results of the elections are announced by following the rules that govern elections.
Salim asked the residents to maintain peace and observe the law during the elections and immediately after the elections results are announced.
“Let us show the country that we are peace loving people by ensuring that the elections are conducted peaceful with no violence,” urged Ms Salim.
