A 31 year old man was on Thursday rescued by the police from an angry mob in Kikuyu town who accused him of impregnating a 12-old-girl.
The man, who is said to have been the holiday private tuition teacher of the girl in August, is said to have defiled her in his house in Zambezi before escaping. However, residents saw him today in Kikuyu town and started beating him up mercilessly.
Confirming the incident, Kikuyu OCPD Mr Mutune Maweu said that the suspect was receiving treatment at Kikuyu Hospital under police watch.
He said the suspect was seriously injured in his ribs and had serious injuries on his head. However, he said that the suspect was on police radar after the parents of the girl had reported the matter back in September when they realised the girl was pregnant.
He said that the suspect had, however, escaped from the area and had recently come back. The police boss said that the suspect will be taken to court once he recovers.
However, he said that members of the public had committed an offense by beating up the suspect. He said that they should have instead taken the suspect to the police.
"Taking law into your hands is a serious crime and we have been warning residents but they haven't abided to the rule. Anyone involved in mob justice will be arrested too," said Maweu.
He also warned parents against trusting people who claim to offer tuition as some of them may take advantage of their girls.
