Maurice Okal was charged before Chief Magistrate Esther Maina for impersonating as a Kenya Power Company agent.

Okal denied the charges for the offence allegedly committed on October 28 in Kisumu.

According to the prosecution, the accused committed the offence in areas of Kondele and Nyawitta, where he was allegedly seen collecting personal information of Kenya Power subscribers.

He was reported to the police after he failed to produce his work identity card by one of the subscribers.

Further scrutiny revealed that he was not an employee of the electricity supplier.

Okal however told the court that he did not commit any crime as he was just 'giving a helping hand.'

"Your honour, i was just collecting information about challenges facing electricity users, with the aim of handing over to Kenya Power so that it can be used in improving their services, I don't see any wrong with that," he said.

He was released on a cash bail of Sh10, 000 pending hearing on January 13, 2015.
