A man was on Wednesday arrested in Kangundo Town for allegedly being in possession of Sh15,000 counterfeit notes.
Confirming the incident, Kangundo OCS Morris Okul, said the suspect was nabbed while allegedly trying to con an M-Pesa agent by depositing the money which was in denominations of Sh1000 but the attendant noticed the notes were fake.
Okul said the agent raised alarm and the suspect was nabbed by residents who frogmarched him to the police station before he could get away.
The officer said police had been searching for the suspect following increased cases of people being conned in the area.
"We have the suspect in custody and we will ensure that we get to the root of the matter after carrying out proper investigations,” said Okul.
He urged residents, especially M-Pesa agents to be vigilant in a bid to avert cases of being conned.
