Uasin Gishu County Governor Jackson Mandago has urged the National government to release the Sh5 billion set aside for Elnino mitigation immediately.
Speaking in Kipkabus Ainabkoi Uasin Gishu County where more than 20 families were affected by the flooded Kipkabus Dam, Mandago said it is time for the National government to fast track the process of releasing the amount. "The national government promised to release the amount before the Elnino rains started but up to now nothing has been done and yet many people are losing their lives while hundreds are being left homeless," he said.
He said that Uasin Gishu County is now facing the wrath of the Elnino rains where more than 20 families have been left homeless.
"I humbly urge president Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene for the funds to be released with speed to prevent loss of lives and people being rendered homeless," he said.
He said he is disappointed by the way the national government is treating county governments when it comes to disbursement of funds.
"Up to now funds for county governments have not been disbursed. Or do they want to see people losing lives for them to give out the funds?" he wondered.
He added that Uasin Gishu county government will give alternative places for the Kipkabus residents who were affected by floods.
