During a meeting yesterday intervened by the school through the University Head of boarding master, landlords have been urged to ensure the safety of students residing in their homes.

After a visit to a number of rental houses, Alfred Kuya, the boarding master has put some landlords on notice that they should fix steel metallic doors on residential places to ensure the safety of students.

“Some residential places don’t meet the set standards for security of students which is very risky. It is our collective duty to address the issue of the security of these students,” Said Kuya.

They were also told to take records of their student tenants including their admission numbers so that it becomes easy to follow up on any issue.

“Set up rule and regulations that govern the stay of the students in those rental houses. Enforce rules such as 10-10 rule where no one should come later than 10 at the residential place so that by that time the main gate should be locked,” Said Kuya.

The landlords also raised concern over irresponsibility of some students causing a lot of damages to their property.

“I had a functioning steel door but it was destroyed by a drunken student who would always come late night,” says Josepth Too a landlord.

Kuya advised them to report any cases of indiscipline to the school administration.
