Maseno market traders have been urged to be paying tax to Kisumu County government for better services.
Mr Evans Okumu from the county government business licensing department has said that many traders in the market have the tendency of failing to pay daily levies, something he said should stop.
“When you don't pay, how do you expect us to improve services where you are? For sometime we have not been able to meet our daily target when it comes to revenue collection in this market,” said Okumu.
Okumu said that many traders had devised methods of hiding whenever county officers are around to collect levies.
“We have come to realise that whenever our officials are here, traders usually disappear but later reappear when we have left. That is very wrong,” he said.
He added that traders should understand that taxes are the only way by which the county government can improve services for its people.
Okumu who was speaking to this writer Tuesday morning in Maseno said that measure are being put in place to ensure that everybody pays levies.
He warned that those who have the tendency to abscond paying taxes will be arrested.
