Mataara dispensary in Gatundu North Sub-County has received Sh350,000 worth of drugs.

According to Anthony Kimani, the area health officer who accompanied the distribution team at the dispensary on Wednesday, two other facilities received drugs on the same day.

Kimani noted that the late distribution was attributed to delayed disbursement of county funds from the National Government.

He warned the health workers against stealing drugs from various dispensaries to sell saying that the government would not sympathise with anyone caught in the act.

"We have distributed the same amount of drugs to several dispensaries today including Gakoe and Kanyoni with Mataara being the third. This late distribution is out of the late Health funding from the national government," he said.

"Am sending a warning to nurses and doctors who steal drugs from dispensaries under their jurisdiction to sell in their chemists of. My department will not turn a blind eye while patients suffer," he said.

Kimani noted that the drugs are expected to serve the area residents for a duration of three months before another distribution. He revealed that Gituamba, Gatunguru, Kairi and Mang’u facilities would be next in the distribution exercise.

Kimani requested the county to renovate Mataara dispensary which he said was in a bad state.

"This dispensary requires one more nurse. More renovation also needs to be done before the dispensary is graded to a Sub-County hospital. The compound is enough for building other units," he said.

He said that the dispensaries that are yet to receive the county funded drugs will receive them on Friday this week.
