Mataara water project management has been urged to treat all open water wells to ensure that residents use clean water which would enable resident in the area to avoid drinking contaminated water.

Njoroge Munyua, a health officer from the area said that he had urged the management to initiate a program that would ensure water in open wells was treated but that it has not been implemented to date.

Munyua revealed that the area dispensary had recorded 33 patients suffering from water borne diseases which he attributed to lack of clean water provided by the project.

"I am now asking what Mataara water project is doing to ensure that the water it supplies to the area resident is purely clean," he said.

"We have no other alternative apart from taking the tap water as we have not dug a well in our place, the management should treat the water," said Anthony Mungai, a resident of Mataara.

Efforts to get a comment from the management were futile as they did not receive this write's calls and the offices were closed.
