Most people from Kibera are travelling upcountry for Christmas holidays. Most matatu and buses operators within the area are therefore happy due to the increased number of residents travelling this season.

"Hundreds of residents are travelling to meet family members to celebrate Christmas holiday together. I am currently making 15 trips from Kibera to town enabling us to get very high profits as compared to normal days," said Michael Otengom a matatu conductor.

"Even if the fare charges doubles, i must travel to meet my parents and other family members at home to celebrate Christmas together," said Christine Okinyi, a passenger and resident of Kibera.

"I will not miss going home this holiday despite the congestion and increased fare charges. I even booked a bus last week at Kshs. 1, 500 from Nairobi to Sirarem," said another passenger and resident in Kibera Daniel Odinga.
