Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has directed counties to form joint county education coordination frameworks to spearhead coordination among education agencies in regions.
He has given education agencies one month to form the frameworks.
Matiang’i was addressing education officials across the country during a retreat for senior management of the education ministry, teachers service commission, county directors of education and chairpersons of school heads both primary and secondary schools in Kisumu on Tuesday.
Matiang’i ordered that the 12-member county framework team should comprise of three representatives from each department in which every county will be required to table reports about the state of education in each county within one month.
“I am expecting 47 reports from each team from every county in a month’s time to highlight challenges in education in the counties,” said Matiang’i, who told the agencies that they cannot succeed while pulling apart.
During the retreat held at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu, the Education CS lashed out at TSC directors, Quality Assurance officers and Technical Industrial Vocational and Entrepreneurship officers within counties for lack of coordination amongst themselves to deliver quality education in the regions.
After a month, the ministry will come up with a framework of reporting and supervision in which will be coordinated by Leah Rotich, the Director General.
He said that lack of coordination among the teams had created anarchy in counties with the issue of transfers being one of the affected areas.
