Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has challenged residents of Nyamira to support Jubilee Alliance party in 2017 presidential elections.
Matiangi, who was speaking at Mosobeti market on Saturday evening said the party offers equal opportunities to all communities without prejudices.
He said Jubilee government had given the region first priority in terms of development despite the area voting overwhelmingly for the opposition CORD in 2013 presidential elections.
“I want to urge all of you to join the Jubilee party. The party offers opportunity to all communities without discrimination. As a community, we have benefited a lot in terms of infrastructural development in the government despite having voted against it in 2013. It’s my wish we support the current leadership so that we increase our stake in government in 2017,” he said.
The flamboyant CS dismissed the opposition as a house of ‘rhetoric’ and divisive politics and urged residents to vote against in 2017 polls.
“I think you know the opposition and its leadership better. They are a group of people who are in love with rhetoric’s and engage in dividing Kenyans. It’s my wish that you vote against them for the sake of electing a development oriented government,” he said.
However in a quick rejoinder, ODM Nyamira vice chair Julius Kaka demanded resignation of the CS accusing him of engaging in politics despite being barred by the law.
“Matiangi is a public servant and I presume he understands the new dispensation of the constitution. He should stay away from politics and if he’s interested in joining politics, it’s then advisable for him to tender his resignation and join us. Otherwise, he should resign because he is abusing his office as a public servant,” he said in a telephone interview.
