Business operators in Matungulu Sub-County have been advised to employ security guards in a bid to curb cases of insecurity in the area.
Speaking during a stakeholder meeting in Tala Town, Matungulu Sub-County deputy commissioner Patrick Mwangi said if business owners adopted the norm, cases of insecurity would go down.
Mwangi said the police are not able to reach every area in the sub-county thus residents should participate by giving them a hand in order to curb insecurity.
"Security begins with everyone and people need to play their part since we can't deploy police officers to every household,” said Mwangi.
Mwangi also assured the business owners of frequent patrols in markets in a bid to keep criminals at bay.
However, KAM Sacco chair Lang'i Muthiani said the gap between the police and the pubic was a factor contributing to insecurity.
Muthiani said the norm of police distancing themselves from the public and not having a close relationship with them has made the public fear giving helpful information.
