Landlords from Mavoko sub-county have been urged to educate their tenants on sanitation in a bid of ensuring clean environment.
Addressing the press at his office in Athi River town on Tuesday, sub-county administrator Onesmus Ituo said this will prevent the residents from getting infected with contagious diseases like Cholera.
Ituo said most of the residents dump garbage carelessly, a situation he said compromised the Machakos County government's efforts to effectively manage solid waste.
He said most of the areas especially in major towns of the sub-county are clean given that employees of the government were committed to eliminating the garbage on a daily basis.
"Our major towns such as Athi River, Mlolongo, Joska and Chyumvi are spotlessly clean, they are already declared garbage free," said Ituo.
Ituo warned that anyone found dumping waste in undesignated areas will be arrested and charged in court.
He called on the landlords to provide their tenants with garbage bags so as to ease work of county government employees at the sanitation department.
"After filling the bags, our employees can easily collect them," said Ituo.
