Mavoko MP has been lauded for investing in education through CDF across his constituency thereby promoting the region's performance in national examinations.
Speaking at Ngwata Primary School on Tuesday, Athi River sub county director of education Joseph Kiema said the legislator had done well by allocating more of the funds for improving infrastructure of the schools.
Kiema said as the MP provides desirable infrastructure for conducive learning environments in the schools, parents and children should effectively play their roles too.
"Nyinyi Watoto someni kwa bidii, all schools whether public or private have equal opportunities to excel in examinations," said Kiema.
Kiema however noted that it is the parents' wish and decisions to take their children in private or public schools depending on their personal convictions on the institutions.
He accused the teachers of enjoying being out of school arguing that majority of the teachers from public schools in the region down their tools early even before their unions Knut and Kuppet announce national teachers strikes thereby registering bad results in national examinations.
"Poor performance in public schools in Athi River sub county is due to teachers strike, some teachers from the region even strike before the national strike is announced by their unions," said Kiema.
Kiema condemned attitude of such teachers asserting that his office was keenly evaluating performances of individual teachers and those found to be sleeping on the job will face disciplinary action as per their performance contracts.
He urged Makau to keep on with the exemplary work so as to make the sub county on top national as academics is concerned.
