Property owners from Mavoko sub county have been urged to create access roads to their premises to ease disaster mitigations.

Speaking from his office in Athi River on Wednesday, the Mavoko sub county deputy fire brigade supervisor David Masila said that the lack of proper access to roads was a big problem in the region. He said that the situation hinders operations of fire engine whenever disasters strike thereby making rescue missions difficult and at times impossible.

He said it is high time those owning houses in the region looked for spaces to create roads for easy access during rescue missions. The officer added that they had on several occasions been forced to bring down structures to allow the engines to gain access thereby causing damages unnecessarily.

He blamed the situation on what he termed as poor planning of structures by the county planners thereby causing lack of proper access to the roads and also blocking storm water ways prompting rain waters to flood and destroy houses among other property.

Masila said all stakeholders from the region needed to corporate and comply with various relevant laws so as to avert the situation.
