Residents from Mavoko division within Athi River sub-county have been cautioned against planting bhang.

Addressing this writer at his office in Athi River town on Tuesday, Mavoko assistant county commissioner David Tegutwa said a click of the residents had gone overboard by planting the illicit substance.

"This is very serious, as security apparatus in Athi River sub-county fight illicit liquor and substance some few individual plant bhang within Athi River town for reasons best known to them," said Tegutwa.

Tegutwa said the culprits will not go scot free since police officers with support from various other security agents were alert and doing everything possible to eliminate the crime.

He said they already had leads which according to him will help reach those involved in planting the substance which has great market in the region.

The administrator's warning comes barely a month when with the assistance from Athi River administration police, led an operation at Embakasi Estate in Athi River town and uprooted more than 250 plants from three different points along the estate's streets.

Tegutwa said though those behind the plantations had not been arrested, several others had been arrested around the area with rolls of bhang ready for consumption.

He said those found peddling the illicit drugs and substances in the region will be dealt with accordingly in line with the law without fear or favor.
