Residents from Mavoko Sub county have been told to respect constitutional rights of children living with disabilities.

Li Tao deputy manager at Standard Gauge Railway's Section 5 contractor China road and Bridge Corporation said that such children need to be protected and provided with all the necessary basic rights to ensure their well being, growth and development.

Tao said that communities from the region and entire Machakos county in extension should be effectively sensitised on the need to develop positive attitudes towards children with special needs.

"There is dire need to sensitise members of the community on positive acceptance of the children living with disabilities for their best interests," said Tao.

He condemned parents and caretakers of such children who are fond of locking them in their houses to prevent them from being seen by members of the public.

Tao addressed this Hivisasa writer shortly after giving out donations of mattresses, food, stationery and soft drinks to 28 children living with disabilities at Kanaani Primary School in Athi River town on Monday.

He said that the donations were from the SGR project contractor's management as a gesture of giving back to the community in a bid to support children living with disabilities who are the most vulnerable group in the society.

"CRBC are today here to have early Christmas and new year with children with special needs, we will have fun, enjoy together and put smiles on their faces," said Tao.
