Mavoko MP Patrick Makau has urged leaderships of public schools within the constituency to resort to constructing storey buildings due to land pressure.
Speaking at Ngwata Primary School on Tuesday, Makau said land had become a major problem faced by several schools from the region thereby hindering infrastructural development.
“Mavoko community is experiencing a shortage of land and therefore, our public schools among other public utilities have got no adequate space for either expansion or development,” said Makau.
Makau said it is high time the schools became more innovative and have structures like classrooms, administrative offices, dormitories, libraries and laboratories constructed up to create more space.
He urged the school heads, contractors and organizations supporting the development of public learning institutions in the area through construction of structures to jointly develop plans that would see the erection of storey buildings to enable maximum utilization of available land.
Makau said there is dire need to start new public primary and secondary schools in the constituency arguing those available were inadequate.
“There are no public schools around, most of the available ones are private which cannot be afforded by the poor parents hence need for the establishment of more public schools,” said Makau.
Makau said all structures by Mavoko CDF in schools within the constituency will be done going upwards henceforth.
“This tuition block at Ngwata Primary School is a classic example of what the CDF fund can do, it is the only fund well utilized and managed in favor of the common mwananchi,” he said.
Makau said the new development plan would also ensure that children in public schools have enough space as play ground for recreational activities.
