Youth from Mavoko sub-county has been encouraged to develop positive attitudes towards casual jobs in a bid to earn livelihoods.
Addressing this reporter in Mlolongo town on Tuesday, the area youth leader James Gitau, said a majority of the youth are discriminative as far as jobs were concerned.
"It beats logic for a youth to despise casual jobs simply because he went to school up to secondary level, this is laughable," said Gitau.
Gitau argued that there was no need for the youth to discriminate jobs though majority of them were desperately living under deplorable poverty.
He said the culprits should learn from their Nairobi counterparts stating that graduates from credible universities living in the city do anything that comes along their ways as they seek jobs in line with their profession.
Gitau said the most ignored and despised jobs include masonry, carpentry, welding, mechanics, tailoring and plumber.
He, however, noted that the technical jobs were more paying than the white collar ones and easy to get due to high demand and market for the skilled artisans in the region.
Gitau said the change of attitudes among the youth would lead to improved living standards and reduced poverty levels among them and their families.
